Carol Colella

Carol’s interest in reading started when one of her children entered an intervention program for at-risk readers. It was that experience that prompted her to go back to school later in life to become a teacher. She graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and continued her post-graduate work at NAU to receive a master’s degree in Reading and Learning Disabilities. Her endorsements include a K- 12 Reading Endorsement, K-3 Early Childhood Endorsement, and a Structured English Language Endorsement.

Carol taught in both the Gilbert and Chandler School Districts during her career. She held positions as a reading specialist and taught first and third grades. Much of her classroom experience was spent as an inclusion teacher working primarily with special education students that were struggling readers. Carol is trained in the Spalding language arts program that uses explicit, integrated instruction with a multisensory approach. She was a Spalding Certified Teacher Instructor for many years, and trained teachers and home school parents all over the valley to use the same method of instruction. She’s also trained in Fundations and DIBELS Interventions. Carol chose to work at AZ Dyslexia Center where she feels that she can continue to make a difference in children’s lives.
